WELCOME TO PAW PAW'S
WHOLESOME HOMEMADE DOG TREATS
Our Story
Welcome to Paw Paw’s Wholesome Homemade Dog Treats. My name is David Hawks, owner of and baker at my small one man dog treat bakery. I mix my treats in small batches, hand roll and cut every one, then bake them exactly the way you would at home. I want to thank you for coming to my website and checking out treats I believe in… and you can trust.
I use only the finest ingredients, the same ones you already know, trust, and use yourself. Products such as Smithfield Bacon, Swanson or College Inn Chicken Broth, Bruce’s Yams, King Arthur Whole Wheat Flour, Gold Medal Flour, and Bob’s Red Mill Brown and White Rice Flour as well their Wheat Germ. I even make my own peanut butter fresh for every batch of peanut butter treats I bake. I use an all natural, plant based preservative manufactured by a Dr. of Veterinary Science. My own dogs...Fritz, Dory, and Betty White...taste test every batch of treats I produce. I’m serious about what I do.
My treats are not health food. They aren’t exotic. They're plain, wholesome, everyday treats for lovable everyday dogs. With that said, I want to point out that none of my treats contain dairy or egg…common allergens. For dogs with gluten or wheat allergies, I offer my rice treats. For dogs on a low protein diet at 6.6% my Chicken Broth and Rice or Sweet Potato and Rice Treats cannot be beat. For Vegetarians my Sweet Potato and Rice treats are perfect.
I offer both my Peanut Butter and Chicken Broth and Bacon treats in two sizes, standard (about the size of a half dollar) and little bits (a nugget size piece, perfect for training, small dogs, and weight control for stylishly stout dogs). Each 8 oz bag contains approximately 30 - 35 standard size pieces, 1 treat a day for a month (.27 cents a day) or two treats a day for two weeks. All of my treats are shelf stable and require no refrigeration. My treats are a crisp hard treat, though I have heard from customers that a little olive oil helps soften them for dogs who prefer a slightly softer treat. Olive oil is also excellent for their skin and coat.
Those of you who have been long time customers will have noticed that my treats are always slightly different...thicker, thinner, lighter, darker...and must wonder what on earth? Well, it's simple. I'm human and sometimes I don't feel as well as others. If my shoulders hurt, I don't press down on the roller as hard and the treats are thicker. If it's early morning and I’m raring to go, I sometimes press too hard. Rainy days require longer baking and the result is a darker treat. In the end, it's just like having made them yourself...<smile>.
Now I want to discuss a necessary evil…shipping. I’m a very small company and I can’t afford to offer you free shipping. I know many of the larger online companies do. Shipping charges vary according to how much is ordered and where you are located but tends to be just about the same whether you order 1 bag or 6. The more you order, the cheaper per bag shipping ends up being. Consider fewer large orders instead of more small orders. Shopping with small local companies helps our local economy.
I know you have a lot of treats to choose from, but I hope you will consider giving Paw Paw’s Wholesome Homemade Dog Treats a try. Your dogs will LOVE them!.
